r is for rachel roy

Definitely my new favourite designer of the year is Rachel Roy. I discovered her when The Bay downtown began carrying a few of the Rachel by Rachel Roy designs; They soon held a fashion show of her collection, and now there's a section dedicated just for the ready-to-wear clothing. Unfortunately, being a petite girl of 5'2', most of her dresses and jackets just don't fit on my frame, which causes me so much frustration. Nevertheless, I'm in love with her Spring garments and I believe you'll feel the same way!

The greatest thing about Rachel Roy is she designs beautiful, eccentric clothing with shocking details. A new take on a simple black dress, I loved the ladder design throughout the midsection and sleeve ($119), and paired with a bright green heel? Amazing. Also, the draped artistic dress completely caught my eye. It's not fitted, and consists of a mash of different colours, but it stays flattering and absolutely gorgeous ($109). Who says that only tight dresses are sexy?

Roy's outwear is impeccable and so desirable. An out-there take on the classic trench, this floral print uneven design is perfect for Spring weather ($139). It looks sweet and innocent paired with gladiator sandles and understated jewelry. On the other hand, this breathtaking neutral suede jacket is asymmetrical done perfectly. ($249) I've walked past it hundreds of times in The Bay, and just feeling the fabric makes me melt! I love how it's paired with shorts and red lipstick - sultry, but not too over the top.

I can't forget about the Rachel Roy shoes and accessories. I love this white leather heel with the jeweled embellishment - the straps are elegant but versatile; I'd pair them with cigarette pants, or fancy them up with a whimsical dress. ($109) And, this jeweled arrow ring is so eye-catching ($55)! I've been experimenting with big chunky rings and this is definitely on my want-list.

Whitney Port, from MTV's The City, recently created three looks from the Rachel line: uptown, downtown and aroundtown. I love the outfits she put together! You can see the video and the rest of the Rachel collection here - the pieces are designer, but affordable. I hope you love them as much as I do!
