the takeover of prints

Whether its animal, tribal, stripes, or floral, prints seem to be slowly taking over my wardrobe - and I'm not complaining! I love how patterns give a simple shirt, shoe, or bag the ultimate 'wow' factor. One of my favourite ways to wear prints is going big and bold on the bottom with a great patterned skirt or shorts, while choosing a plain tank on top, and accessorizing with a chunky necklace. Simple, but so effective! I'll be posting my own elegance ensemble featuring prints in the near future! For now, here are some great patterned finds to spice up your closet this summer.

Mini Kaftan, Emilio Pucci $760
Vintage Floral Shoulder Bag, Forever 21 $20
Halter Printed Waistcoat, Topshop $90
Swallow Print Tunic, ASOS $54
Swansong Floral Wedge, Jeffrey Campbell $105
Double Breasted Jacket, Rachel Roy $149
Leopard Playsuit, Topshop $70
Lahaina Floral Romper, Nastygal $44

jessica stam, culturally couture

I browsed by some summer-themed editorials and fell in love with one shot by the amazing photographer Alexi Lubomirski for Harper's Bazaar US August 2010 issue. Starring Canadian-born model Jessica Stam (love her!), the shoot takes place in Seville, Spain. It's dripping with rich colours and traditional culture, perfectly depicting Spain in its fashionable glory. I love Stam's laughing red lips, and the effortless way about her makes me want to join in the fun and travel the world. Is that patterned black gown not absolutely stunning?

elegance ensemble, life's a beach

Ruffled tank: Abercrombie & Fitch, Jean Shorts: Zara
Rings: Mexico, Bathing Suit: Roxy

On a sunny Sunday, my boyfriend and I took a trip to White Rock beach for the day. We set up our lawn chairs and soaked up the rays... until the clouds rolled in. He snapped a few shots of me running around barefoot (I love squishing my toes in the sand) and I thought I'd share a few. I'm in love with my Zara shorts; embellished pockets with lace trim, they are my new summer staple. I love those days when you feel comfortable and free in your clothes - nothing fancy or too tight, just simple and unassuming. I hope everyone is enjoying this sunshine as much as I am! What are your summer staples this year?

gossip girl, bienvenue à Paris

It is sad to say that I am definitely going through Gossip Girl withdrawal; and not to mention waiting in agony for the new season to start up in the Fall on September 13. Until then, these on-set pictures are a perfect sneak peak into the lives of Blair and Serena as they jet off to start their summer in Paris. The designs are perfectly chic and sometimes outrageous - I can't decide which outfit I love the most. And is that Chuck? With a cane and a new blonde? I'm dying to know how it all plays out!

decked out for summer heat

Combine my new favourite leading man Matthew Morrison from the hit TV show Glee, and the beautiful Raquel Zimmermann, and you end up with a balance of perfection. The harmony of swimwear and daywear is incredible, and I love the easy elegance that comes with dressing for summer weather. Just a little something to get you in the mood for the upcoming heat that is bound to hit Vancouver!

elegance ensemble, chai tea latte

Cardigan: Spring & Clifton, Button-down Shirt: American Eagle
Black booties: Aldo, Red tote: Chinese Laundry

I've decided to jump back in to my personal style photos and post a few that have been sitting in my iPhoto for some time. This was just before I left to meet the Portobello West group for coffee at JJ Bean on Main Street. My comfy-yet-chic Spring & Clifton cardigan was perfect on an overcast day - is it weird that the neutral shade reminds me of chai tea? I wear it so often that two buttons have mysteriously fallen off. I'm going to have to Google How to sew on a button since I seriously lack in the textiles department!

I hope everyone had a lovely Canada Day weekend full of fireworks, late nights, and good people!
