the beginning of the rest of my life

I think I've told myself that this is the beginning of the rest of my life on every single birthday since I was fourteen. I always believe that this year will be the year, and usually my expectations are met with some sort of craziness, whether it's good or bad, I embrace it all. This year is the year of legality, nineteen candles - which can either be a breath of fresh air or a nasty burden (I don't have the underage excuse anymore to back out of things I don't want to attend). I'm going to call this my year of independence; I'm investing a lot of time into brainstorming about my future, and I also think I may be getting my very first tattoo - both extremely scary in their separate ways. I love my birthday though, and who doesn't? A day dedicated just to me, a day to be pampered and loved and receive an overload of facebook notifications. The worst part? There's never been a year where tears haven't been spilt - maybe it's time to break the curse! So let's here it for birthdays and always, always celebrating to the fullest.

fashion week recap, london

Ah, the city of London; thoughts of Kate Moss, double-decker buses, and Amanda Bynes in What A Girl Wants is always what comes to mind. Fashion week moved on from New York to London in a whirl of edgy and whimsical runway collections. I find that I personally enjoyed more from NYFW, but I still had my favourites from the United Kingdom; the soft shades but bold peeks of colour were so perfect (shown in two of my favourite colletions, Twenty8Twelve and Burberry Prorsum) and I really took a liking to the soft, flowy skirts that were so popular. Here are my personal picks for London Fashion Week Spring 2011 (Images from style.com)

Twenty8Twelve | Sass & Bide | Acne
Burberry Prorsum | Vivienne Westwood Red Label
Christopher Kane | David Koma | Antonio Berardi | Erdem

fashion week recap, new york

Even the mere mention of "New York City" makes me go all dreamy-eyed with city streets, broadway musicals, and of course, amazing fashion. For us folk that weren't jet setting off to see the Spring 2011 runway shows of New York Fashion Week, admiring them in the comfort of our home with a cup of tea just about does the trick (well, I'd like to think so). I had so much fun reading the day-to-day blogs and scrolling through endless pictures on style.com - even though fall is just upon us, the world of fashion is always light years ahead. I was just loving the neutral colour palettes, slouchy styles, and bold patterns. Here's a small recap of the looks that I adored: what were your favourite collections from NYFW?

Nicholas K | Charlotte Ronson | Diane von Furstenberg
3.1 Phillip Lim | Erin Fetherston | Rebecca Taylor
Rodarte | Marc by Marc Jacobs | Z Spoke by Zac Posen
