friends make the world go round

I don't know what I would do in my life without my amazing, beautiful friends. I have so many great friends, so different and lovely in their own ways. Through my church, I've become so close to a group of girls that I feel like I've known them forever. Each one of us is so unique and different that we never run out of things to talk about, or laugh about, or cry about. We decided to go on a girls getaway trip to Birch Bay a few weekends back. Despite getting hassled at the border for looking like five innocent girls trafficking drugs (really?!) the time away from the craziness of life was much needed. We drank tea, ate the most delicious home-cooked meals, and spent quality time with God. Since there was no TV or internet (which I thought was crazy... but was actually such a nice change), we decided to get crafty and make headbands! After burning myself with the hot glue gun a hundred times, I finally got the hang of twisting and wrapping the fabric. I loved how mine turned out, and I sported it today with my outfit! And, yes, I realize I have yet to wear a bright colour. I promise, next outfit you will be blown away by springtime hues! Enjoy your morning everyone, and tell your friends you love them today, just for me.

london is calling my name

Tea and crumpets anyone? I felt very British in this outfit, possibly due to the fact that I based it on a recent outfit by Alexa Chung, one of my favourite style icons. She always looks so effortlessly put together, doesn't she? Although I did add my own spin on it with printed heart tights (a steal for $5 at Forever 21. I'm ignoring the fact that they bunch a little around the knees). Meagan and I found this perfect empty space on the SFU campus with a breathtaking view of the mountains, still snow-capped and looking beautiful. Can I just say that it feels so good to be able to wear the other clothes and shoes from my closet that were not included in my 30 for 30 Challenge. These kitten-heeled booties are perfect for days when I know I'll have a bit of a distance to walk, but they still give me extra height, which I love, being only 5'1". Also, this trench is so lightweight and perfect for those in-between temperatures that will be happening throughout Spring. I can't wait for more sunshine, gorgeous days, and school to be over! Three more weeks and my life will be normal again. Happy Monday everyone!

colour-block my world

Okay, in all honesty, I'm supposed to be writing a paper right now... But, perusing my favourite online shops made me really excited for Spring. My eyes were filled with bright hues as I sifted through photos and photos of breathtaking clothes, shoes, and accessories. It is so refreshing to see colourful shades instead of the never-ending blacks, grays, and whites. Nothing against neutrals (you know I have definitely hopped on that bandwagon), but really, the weather has been warmer and the sunshine has been poking out from behind the clouds recently - I've decided that it's time to say goodbye to neutrals and hello to colours! With school being a giant storm cloud looming over my head, I haven't even had the chance to go near a store in what feels like months. Online window shopping is the only thing keeping me sane. Will you be sporting the colour-block trend for Spring and Summer? I certainly will be, if everything isn't already sold out by the time I find a spare moment to enjoy some retail therapy!

thirty for thirty round-up

Looking back on these thirty days of outfits really made me realize a few things:

1) Dresses can also be very cute and effective as skirts.
2) I am the queen of neutrals.... and hats.
3) Investing in a beautiful new purse is a must.

Doing the 30 for 30 Challenge not only forced me to stay away from shopping, it really changed my frame of mind. It tested my creativity with outfits, and I tried out combinations that I never would have thought of before. I also have a newfound love for accessories, which I believe really can make a simple outfit so on-trend and amazing. I definitely learned how to incorporate those 'why-did-I-buy-these' clothes and shoes into my everyday wear. I grumbled for days on how a fur vest looked stupid with everything I owned, and now I love it. If you ever feel like you're in a wardrobe funk, challenge yourself with the 30 for 30. It will give you such a fresh perspective on what you already own. Now, please excuse me while I go splurge on something fabulous to celebrate!

day thirty: peace out

It's officially over! My Thirty for Thirty Challenge is complete, and it feels so good to have that accomplished. It seems like this took centuries to finish (granted I did cheat a little bit during exam season) but now I can go back to my beautiful unworn clothes with a new frame of mind. Today was the craziest day. It started out horrible. I was late, it was raining, another Tim Horton's PPA, my hair was doing weird things, and I was majorly stressing out about my two huge papers due in a couple days. Then, to top it all off, my Dad calls and said that the amazing, perfect trip that he found to Mexico was gone when he called our travel agent in the morning. Seriously? I won't lie, I teared up on the skytrain home. Luckily Meagan was around to keep me sane. I got home, did a little bit of an outfit overhaul, made some tea, and took a deep breath to calm down. I ended up spending the evening at SFU Surrey trying to conjure up ideas for my essay, and I started to make progress. Then, I received an email that I was granted an extension on my paper until Monday. I literally jumped up, did a twirl, and started to cry. So. Happy. THEN my Dad called and said he found another, even better, more amazing trip to Mexico. Booked. So. Excited. Day was officially awesome. And this outfit? Yeah, it may be Spring, but I had to bust out the fur vest. I felt kind of hippie and wonderful in it. Thanks to Meagan for these awesome shots!

P.S. My article Fashion Your Way To The Perfect Interview for InContext SFU Magazine is published! Take a peek and pick up a copy at Harbour Center or Burnaby campus for a great read :)

day twentynine: spring has sprung

It was absolutely gorgeous out today! I have literally no food in my house, so I decided to take a much-needed trip to the grocery store, and when I hopped in my car I immediately rolled my windows down. It was warm and the sunshine was out - I couldn't have been happier. Spring has officially arrived, my friends! I went to Starbucks on the way and my best friend was working so we had a little chat over coffee (everyone was ordering Frappuccino's but I couldn't help but have my Skinny Caramel Macchiato... I'm obsessed). Even walking to and from my car was lovely, and my spirits couldn't be higher right now. Not even school can bring me down. I'm ready to face my week of assignments, term papers, and essays. I hope all you Vancouverites had a chance to soak up a little Vitamin D today, and if not, I can promise there will be more sunny days in the future!
