sweater weather

IT FEELS LIKE it's taken a little while for Vancouver to actually reach colder temperatures, but now that they've arrived I've taken every excuse to bundle up in cozy knits to stay warm. This Guess sweater dress has been a favourite of mine that I've had for years, and I love everything about it. With a slouchy cowl neck and a great length, it's definitely a staple item in my closet for chilly days  I love pairing it with boots or wool tights. It was snowing last night and I couldn't help but feel hopeful for a winter wonderland on Christmas day... Too much to wish for?

I'll let you in on a little secret: I'm actually wearing nude tights under my gray knee-highs and boots. Grab a pair that matches your skin tone and voilà, show a little 'skin' without freezing!

touch of faux fur

THERES NOTHING I love more than layering when it gets cold outside. The hardest part? Layering without looking like I gained 15 pounds overnight. Maybe it's a short-girl thing, but whenever I wear a jacket on top of a sweater on top of a long sleeve on top of a tee, complete with maybe a vest or a scarf or a hat (or all of the above) I feel like a total eskimo. Which is why this faux fur vest that I purchased last year barely ever gets worn. But I decided to challenge myself, and I think I found the trick: Layering items that are cropped and tailored (like this fab Jacob jersey jacket) with varying lengths and different colours add a little dimension, producing a non-bulky look. With a skinny jean and my favourite Aldo nude heels (instant leg-lengtheners) I felt pretty confident in this layered look!

What is your method for layering in the colder months? Enjoy your Thursday everyone!

winter chill

I WILL BE the first to admit it  I'm a hat person. I love hats, all kinds really. I don't play favourites. They're perfect to add a little 'something' to any outfit, and it's also a quick fix for a rotten hair day (which I feel like I've had plenty of lately). Right now I'm alternating between my black bowler, a white winter headband, and this gray knitted toque from David & Young. I love the bow detail, adding just the right amount of girly. With the winter chill starting to settle in throughout Vancouver, my outfits have consisted of cozy layers and more layers. This cropped sweater has been the perfect piece to wear over tees and long sleeves to add a bit of texture and warmth. Throw in a little bit of leather, leopard print (of course) and I'm set! Have a great Tuesday everyone.

sweater over blouse

I WAS REALLY excited when I saw some of my favourite bloggers wearing cozy sweaters over blouses, bringing that perfect combination of casual yet put together. I love how trends are picked up, blogged about, and make their way into so many personal styles. I'll see someone wearing something that is so simple and chic, yet I would've never thought to try it myself without that push of inspiration. Of course, you can never go wrong with leopard print, which is what I paired under this surprisingly warm striped sweater. This outfit is a go-to for running errands or for trips to class  and on a great note, I just finished my final project today! Time to party! Well, after I take a long nap. Did I mention I finished my final project right now at 4am? Life of a student.

Have a wonderful Monday lovelies. Yup, I said it. A wonderful Monday.

starting fresh

YOU KNOW WHEN your life just kind of gets turned upside down because of so many hard-to-deal-with events happening all at once? It's funny. I always feel like my life is routine, and then wham I get hit with a thousand different decisions facing me all at once, asking me to decide now because, well,  life is apparently urgent. So, I made the executive decision to cut out a few things to make room for others, which included putting a month hiatus on this here blog. I can tell you though, I am so happy to be back. December feels like it's going to be a great month, and I feel like I'm finally getting back to my old self again.

I've been adoring the leather sleeves trend which is everywhere right now, and I couldn't help but fall in love with this Ellison trench from Blonde, a small boutique in Kelowna. I also picked up a simple chambray from Forever 21 that I've been wearing nonstop. Who would've thought that a denim top would become such a staple piece in my wardrobe?! Have a happy Thursday everyone!

all hallows eve

I WAS FEELING the fall air in this outfit, pairing together two of my favourite shades this year: mustard yellow and a jewel tone cobalt blue. I purchased this sweater last week and it's been such a cozy, versatile piece. I never realized how essential a cable knit sweater is  I've been pairing it with jeans as well as throwing it over a dress to add a layer of both warmth and colour.

Also, today is Halloween! I'm dressing up as a fabulous hollywood star (I'll be showing a sneak peek on Instagram later) and heading to a hall party with my beautiful friend Marissa from Never Dress Down. If you haven't checked out her fashion/photography/design blog, you must. Have a safe and spooky Halloween everyone!

cozy sweaters

THE DAYS ARE getting colder and with watching coverage of Hurricane Sandy hitting the East Coast, all I want to do these days are curl up with a cup of tea and a cozy sweater. This amazing sweater that I purchased at the Topshop Vancouver opening the other week has been my go-to, dressing it up with boots and a blouse, or down with other warm pieces like this cashmere maxi. Although I'm sad to see the warmer days go, it's been nice to pull out my favourite winter items and style them in new ways this year. Have a lovely Tuesday everyone - I have an exciting giveaway for you tomorrow!

Thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by the storm in the East. Stay safe and dry!

autumn colours

FALL FASHION HAS officially arrived! The leaves are changing and Vancouver is starting to turn into Raincouver very quickly. But I've surprisingly embraced the rain this season and have happily been wearing my favourite pair of cognac leather boots from Aldo (similar to this pair). You really can't go wrong with an over-the-knee boot. Paired with a simple black dress, jean jacket, and a scarf full of autumn colours, I was set for running a few errands around town.

There are so many great fall trends showing up everywhere and I can't wait to get my hands on a few! I'm obsessing over ankle booties, moto jackets, leather skirts, smoking slippers, and slouchy cardigans. Oxblood/burgundy is definitely the new black this season and in addition to a new blouse and a new pair of jeans in that shade, I'm also coveting this beautiful Marc by Marc Jacobs oxblood shoulder bag. Yes, please!

rainy days and polka dots

WE'VE BEEN LUCKY in Vancouver to have had so many weeks without a drop of rain. So when it was a little gloomy outside the other day, I just embraced it and braved the raindrops to shoot this outfit. Again with the burgundy/oxblood pants, but when I realized how well they went with this peplum top I couldn't resist pairing the two together. Throw on a pair of comfy heels and I was set!

In other news, I'm one to always extend my birthday to the last possible minute. You only turn 21 once right?! Andrew saved my gift until we got to New York City and I left with the most beautiful pearl bracelet from Tiffany & Co. on Fifth Avenue. Living my Audrey Hepburn/Holly Golightly dream! I've been wearing it constantly  It's such a special piece. Thank you babe, and everyone else who made my birthday so special this year! xo

brooklyn and soho

THIS SKYLINE STILL takes my breath away. Walking the Brooklyn Bridge was definitely a highlight of our trip to New York City, and I can't wait to walk it again someday. We took the camera out for the day and Andrew got a few amazing shots of the bridge and Manhattan in the distance. The weather was nice, not too hot or cold, but it definitely called for a jacket and scarf! And, I know, I'm wearing leopard print again. It strangely found its way into every outfit I wore on the trip... We also walked around SoHo and did a bit of shopping but surprisingly I stayed modest and didn't buy that much! A first for Chelle :) Have a wonderful day everyone!

leopard in the city

NEW YORK CITY. Take me back to this beautiful place. The second time visiting this year, Andrew and I took NYC by storm. We brought out the camera for our trip to Central Park (which was conveniently a short jaunt away from the apartment we stayed at) and so here's a photo diary of our day. We made like tourists and visited the iconic Bow Bridge and decided to row a boat around the lake which was a true New York experience. We then took to the Upper East Side with the stunning buildings on Fifth Avenue, and of course, the Metropolitan Museum of Art  I had to have the quintessential soft pretzel on the steps of the Met. We had a delicious dinner at Sushi Yasaka and then headed out to East Village to dance the night away at Webster Hall. All in all... Amazing. I can't wait to go back!
