tailored stripes

DOES ANYONE EVER second guess their outfit? Sometimes with the overload of personal style out there, I've been overwhelmed with comparison and not feeling confident in my choices. Especially while living on a budget, I won't feel glamourous, polished or on-trend enough. But lately, I've decided to brush those feelings away and just wear what feels good. And stripes are my definite go-to! I feel like I can never go wrong in a good stripe. Paired with tailored shorts and a bold lip, I could take this outfit from day to night by swapping out flats for heels and adding a tailored white blazer. I love versatility.

What is your go-to outfit that never fails to make you feel great? Have a lovely Tuesday everyone!

neon florals

SIGH, THE WEEKEND is over. I had such a great weekend, though - the start of the Olympics, out for a best friends birthday, a surprise party, and a family barbecue. And the sun was shining the whole time! The only thing not great about my weekend was my awkward/embarrassing fall on the escalator while running to catch the SkyTrain. Let's just say taking the steps two at a time with laptop in one hand and a coffee in the other (all while carrying my huge school bag) was not the smartest idea. I was lucky though, only a few cuts and scrapes on my shins and hands... and no one even saw!

How was your weekend everyone? Hope you all have a lovely Monday!

P.S Don't forget to enter to win an Olympic Apparel jacket c/o The Hudson's Bay Co!

CLOSED! olympic giveaway with hudsons bay co

THE LONDON 2012 Summer Olympics are here! And what better way to kick off the celebrations than with a giveaway from the Hudson's Bay Company for a piece from the Team Canada Replica Apparel! A consistent source of Canadian pride, the Bay teamed up with myself, Alicia, Kate and Cara to style key pieces from the collection. I headed to the iconic Olympic rings in Whistler, BC to shoot a few photos of this modern track jacket. The patch detailing represents Canada's passion and accomplishment, and with a large Olympic Team Canada graphic on the back, this jacket is definitely a stand-out piece!

And the best news... You can win this jacket for yourself! Here's how to enter:

vertically fashioned

AS A BLOGGER, I feel like I always have to find unique and creative ways to re-style pieces in my wardrobe. The toughest for me? Maxi dresses. I tried so hard to make this lovely patterned one from the Gap (on sale right now!) different than when I styled it here in Whistler, but I kept coming back to the same thing: a belt, flats, and a cropped jacket. Then, I decided, why not let the dress shine? It's such a key piece in my wardrobe, why not let it have another blog post where the focus is all on the dress. The bonus? It makes me feel like my 5'1"frame is 6 feet tall!

Are maxi dresses a key item in your wardrobe? How are you styling them?
Enjoy your Wednesday everyone!

full of opportunity

SO ON FRIDAY I mentioned here that I had some exciting news to share. Well, everyone, meet the new intern at the boutique social media agency, Booje Media! I've been toughing it out as a full-time University student for a while and when this opportunity came up I had to carpe diem. I am so excited to work alongside Clio and Tiffany De La Llave who are equal parts beautiful and brilliant (and this spread in Framework Magazine proves just that). I can't wait to put my passion for social media to work at the House of Booje! I hope everyone has an amazing Monday and be sure to check out @boojemedia while you're sipping your morning coffee!

all dressed up

IT'S FINALLY FRIDAY! I couldn't be more excited to shed my boring attire of jean shorts and a tee that I've been sporting every day this week, and wear something bright and fun out on the town. I love this dress that has been in my closet for years. The patchwork of different colours and patterns has always felt carefree and a little wild. I feel like it's been a whirlwind of a week, and an exciting one at that! This morning I found out amazing news that I can't wait to share with you all on Monday. It's crazy how one moment you can feel like the whole world is against you, and then the next minute all the pieces just fall together, even better than you imagined.

I hope you all have a chance to put on that favourite dress of yours and enjoy the weekend! TGIF :)

splash of neon

I PURCHASED THIS lovely lime green silk blouse from Joe Fresh a month back, and I have yet to showcase it on Discovering Elegance. I was skeptical about the colour because it is a shade that I don't wear often, but to my surprise, this is actually one of the most versatile tops that I own. I've worn it with everything from cutoff shorts to delicate skirts. Recently, I noticed the trend on a lot of fashion bloggers of layering shirts over dresses and tying them into a sweet little knot. Pairing this blouse over my lace dress was the perfect touch of ladylike without going over the top.

What are your favourite colours to wear for summer? Have you tried lime green and other neon shades? Have a lovely Wednesday everyone!

dreaming of paradise

A COUPLE OF months ago my boyfriend and I spontaneously decided to take a week vacation in Mexico. Lounging by the pool, margarita in hand, nothing to worry about... life could not get any sweeter. One of my best friends is in Cancun at the moment and I can't help but reminisce about long walks on the beach, the delicious salsa, and a compulsory siesta at 2pm each day. I'm so happy the sunshine has graced Vancouver lately, but with my school work piling up as term comes to an end, I'm feeling more stressed than relaxed.

How are you finding time to de-stress these days? For me, I'm thinking a trip to Spa Utopia is in order!

panama pretty

EVER SINCE I saw Sydney of The Daybook wearing her Panama hat with everything from maxi dresses to jean shorts and a simple tee, I knew I had to find one for myself. I found the perfect one at the Gap on sale the other day and I couldn't wait to style it. I loved the way it gave my simple white shirt and paper-bag shorts a laid-back vibe. Although I'll probably never make it to Panama any time soon, this hat is the perfect alternative.

How are you styling hats this summer? Enjoy the sunshine and have a great Thursday!

tulip skirt

YOU MAY NOTICE that I take a lot of my outfit shots where I'm surrounded by greenery. The curse of living in the suburbs, I guess! I always feel like my readers think I go for these long walks in the park or something, wearing my flowy dresses, heels and statement jewellery (trust me, I don't!). Reality is, I like the forest-like scenery better than residential housing, because that's basically my other option for a photo location before I head off to class or whatnot. I only wish I had a photographer that I could keep in my pocket and take out at the opportune moments for a great shoot.

So, I envy you, you bloggers in the city! I can't wait to one day move out to downtown Vancouver, or at least close by, and experience city life. Any tips on taking outfit photos? Do you use a tripod or get together with someone to snap a couple shots?
Enjoy your Wednesday everyone!

nineties wisdom

IT'S A LITTLE late, but I meant to post this outfit for Canada Day (eh)! I feel very 90s in this outfit, with my jean jacket, white sneakers and glasses. It was the era I grew up in, so I'm happy about the throwback to Saved By The Bell-inspired fashion that I've been seeing in stores lately. My jean jacket has become a staple item for anything from a summer dress to black jeans and heels!

On another note, I had my wisdom teeth removed on Saturday. I've been living on cherry jello, tapioca pudding and tofu shirataki noodles and laying around in the sunshine that recently hit Vancouver. Safe to say it's been a very lazy weekend, and I can't wait to get back into the swing of things! Have a great Monday everyone!

shake it out

I'LL LET YOU in on a little secret... in about 75% of the photos taken of me for an outfit post, I am laughing, giggling, or pouting. There is something so strange about posing for the camera in a public place with people driving or walking by, probably thinking to themselves what is this girl doing?! But looking back at these photos, I had to smile. I haven't been laughing enough these days and it's Friday (finally!) so take the time today to relax, shake it out and have a really good laugh. One that makes you feel like you got an ab workout. Because, really, laughter is the best medicine. TGIF!

framework mag feature

I WAS SO excited to be asked to be a part of the summer Blogger Panel for Framework Magazine's July 2012 issue. Alongside three other amazing bloggers, Randa, Madelon and Cara, you can find out about our dream destination, favourite fashion city, and our travel essentials. Framework Mag is an online publication full of everything a girl could want to read about, from fashion and home decor, to travel and culture. I also love the cover feature on Booje Media's Clio & Tiffany. I met these fabulous ladies a little while back and their genuine excitement and dedication is infectious. Definitely loved having a glimpse into their lifestyle! So make sure you check out Framework Mag and have a lovely Tuesday!
