sweater weather

IT FEELS LIKE it's taken a little while for Vancouver to actually reach colder temperatures, but now that they've arrived I've taken every excuse to bundle up in cozy knits to stay warm. This Guess sweater dress has been a favourite of mine that I've had for years, and I love everything about it. With a slouchy cowl neck and a great length, it's definitely a staple item in my closet for chilly days  I love pairing it with boots or wool tights. It was snowing last night and I couldn't help but feel hopeful for a winter wonderland on Christmas day... Too much to wish for?

I'll let you in on a little secret: I'm actually wearing nude tights under my gray knee-highs and boots. Grab a pair that matches your skin tone and voilà, show a little 'skin' without freezing!

touch of faux fur

THERES NOTHING I love more than layering when it gets cold outside. The hardest part? Layering without looking like I gained 15 pounds overnight. Maybe it's a short-girl thing, but whenever I wear a jacket on top of a sweater on top of a long sleeve on top of a tee, complete with maybe a vest or a scarf or a hat (or all of the above) I feel like a total eskimo. Which is why this faux fur vest that I purchased last year barely ever gets worn. But I decided to challenge myself, and I think I found the trick: Layering items that are cropped and tailored (like this fab Jacob jersey jacket) with varying lengths and different colours add a little dimension, producing a non-bulky look. With a skinny jean and my favourite Aldo nude heels (instant leg-lengtheners) I felt pretty confident in this layered look!

What is your method for layering in the colder months? Enjoy your Thursday everyone!

winter chill

I WILL BE the first to admit it  I'm a hat person. I love hats, all kinds really. I don't play favourites. They're perfect to add a little 'something' to any outfit, and it's also a quick fix for a rotten hair day (which I feel like I've had plenty of lately). Right now I'm alternating between my black bowler, a white winter headband, and this gray knitted toque from David & Young. I love the bow detail, adding just the right amount of girly. With the winter chill starting to settle in throughout Vancouver, my outfits have consisted of cozy layers and more layers. This cropped sweater has been the perfect piece to wear over tees and long sleeves to add a bit of texture and warmth. Throw in a little bit of leather, leopard print (of course) and I'm set! Have a great Tuesday everyone.

sweater over blouse

I WAS REALLY excited when I saw some of my favourite bloggers wearing cozy sweaters over blouses, bringing that perfect combination of casual yet put together. I love how trends are picked up, blogged about, and make their way into so many personal styles. I'll see someone wearing something that is so simple and chic, yet I would've never thought to try it myself without that push of inspiration. Of course, you can never go wrong with leopard print, which is what I paired under this surprisingly warm striped sweater. This outfit is a go-to for running errands or for trips to class  and on a great note, I just finished my final project today! Time to party! Well, after I take a long nap. Did I mention I finished my final project right now at 4am? Life of a student.

Have a wonderful Monday lovelies. Yup, I said it. A wonderful Monday.

starting fresh

YOU KNOW WHEN your life just kind of gets turned upside down because of so many hard-to-deal-with events happening all at once? It's funny. I always feel like my life is routine, and then wham I get hit with a thousand different decisions facing me all at once, asking me to decide now because, well,  life is apparently urgent. So, I made the executive decision to cut out a few things to make room for others, which included putting a month hiatus on this here blog. I can tell you though, I am so happy to be back. December feels like it's going to be a great month, and I feel like I'm finally getting back to my old self again.

I've been adoring the leather sleeves trend which is everywhere right now, and I couldn't help but fall in love with this Ellison trench from Blonde, a small boutique in Kelowna. I also picked up a simple chambray from Forever 21 that I've been wearing nonstop. Who would've thought that a denim top would become such a staple piece in my wardrobe?! Have a happy Thursday everyone!
