Although for some reason I tend to gravitate more towards smoothies during the Summer months, with the beautiful weather we've been having in Vancouver I think this qualifies. I used to always associate smoothies with protein shakes, having it before or after the gym. It wasn't until last year that I discovered how delicious a smoothie could be, with layers of flavour and without the protein powder taste.
I absolutely love blueberries and I use this superfood generously in this particular drink. Since berries are out of season right now, I used a frozen organic variety, which are perfect when blended. This recipe is fairly simple, but I do have a couple of secret ingredients that I'd love to share with you. Also, I'll provide measurements in the recipe but honestly I just go for it and taste afterwards! Sometimes it's better that way, to just have fun and let your palette decide what tastes best. 3/4 c. Frozen organic blueberries
1/2 Banana (sliced)
1/2 c. Coconut water
1/2 c. Unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1/2 c. Vanilla greek yogurt
1 tsp. Cinnamon
3 tbsp. Himalayan Tsampa (Organic Barley)
1 c. Ice
Blend all of these yummy ingredients together and enjoy! I just discovered Himalayan Tsampa at my local farmer's market the other week and I'm completely hooked. Instead you can always add uncooked oatmeal, chia seeds, flax seed, or protein powder if you wish!
