graveyard chic

Okay, what is spookier than taking photos in a graveyard? This place gives me the total creeps, but in a good way. I love being scared on Halloween (the rest of the year, not so much). For this Halloween-themed post, I gravitated towards the classics  Beige coat, jeans, a white tee and leather boots. This is one of my favourite looks for everyday, and with a swipe of red lipstick it's so easy to feel comfortable yet completely put together. Tonight I'll be staying in watching scary movies with a glass of wine and a whole lot of mini chocolate bars. What will you be dressing up as this year? I love seeing how creative people get with their costumes. Have you seen Ellen's? I almost died laughing. So hilariously amazing, as always. Happy Halloween everyone!

west meets east

It's been my first couple of days in New York and Connecticut, and I've been spoiled with the beautiful sunshine and changing fall leaves. Saturday night was spent having drinks in Soho, and we randomly ducked into the cutest brunch place on Sunday afternoon called Cafe Select on Lafayette Street. Followed by my first experience walking the High Line and a spicy Bloody Mary at the Biergarten at the Standard Hotel (still not as good as a Canadian caesar!) we headed to Connecticut. I'm already in love with the tree-lined streets and bustle of East Coast life... It's definitely a different experience than the ease of Vancouver.

Any favourite spots in New York City that you recommend? I've love to hear them! Happy Tuesday everyone. xo

pretty moments

I have been so extremely busy preparing to leave this weekend that there has been little time for outfit photos. So here are a few snapshots from my week, including Niche Magazine, the perfect pair of heels, pretty polish colours, and high tea at The Little White House with a few incredible girls. I love being surrounded by other successful women who are going after their dreams — They inspire me everyday! Have a lovely Thursday everyone. xo

tres chic

I've always loved the saying très chic and when I found this sweater I couldn't say no. I dressed it up with a bright hi-lo skirt and a pop of leopard print for a coffee date with my favourite Love from Meagan. Sometimes all it takes is a strong americano misto and a best friend to put things into perspective. I decided that I'm going to be taking a 6-week adventure and I've never been away from home for that long in my life before. It feels so good to have the support of the people I love, and if only I could take them all on this journey with me.

Where am I travelling to? Only one of my favourite places in the world. Check my Instagram to find out! Happy Monday everyone. xo

sparkle on

TGIF! I love Friday's, and what better way to spend one than with a best girlfriend? Marissa from Never Dress Down warms my heart and has killer style. And I know she'd agree with me on this: Us ladies love to wear a little sparkle every once in a while! I thought it was a definite must to show off a few of my pretty gifts given to me within the past couple weeks.

The two stunning J. Crew pieces gifted from my man for my graduation (swoon) have been dressed up and down, perfect for any occasion. I also received a luxurious scarf from Maison Birks that I can't wait to wear for an extra pop of colour. And finally, after the breathtaking Creme de la Creme preview by Countdown Events, I went home with beautiful earrings from Elsa Corsi for Jeweliette Jewelry. I think her quote says it best, keep calm and sparkle on! xo

blueberry goodness smoothie

Although for some reason I tend to gravitate more towards smoothies during the Summer months, with the beautiful weather we've been having in Vancouver I think this qualifies. I used to always associate smoothies with protein shakes, having it before or after the gym. It wasn't until last year that I discovered how delicious a smoothie could be, with layers of flavour and without the protein powder taste.

I absolutely love blueberries and I use this superfood generously in this particular drink. Since berries are out of season right now, I used a frozen organic variety, which are perfect when blended. This recipe is fairly simple, but I do have a couple of secret ingredients that I'd love to share with you. Also, I'll provide measurements in the recipe but honestly I just go for it and taste afterwards! Sometimes it's better that way, to just have fun and let your palette decide what tastes best. Happy Thursday! xo

3/4 c. Frozen organic blueberries
1/2 Banana (sliced)
1/2 c. Coconut water
1/2 c. Unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1/2 c. Vanilla greek yogurt
1 tsp. Cinnamon
3 tbsp. Himalayan Tsampa (Organic Barley)
1 c. Ice

Blend all of these yummy ingredients together and enjoy! I just discovered Himalayan Tsampa at my local farmer's market the other week and I'm completely hooked. Instead you can always add uncooked oatmeal, chia seeds, flax seed, or protein powder if you wish!

plaid days

It was Thanksgiving weekend in Canada, which also coincided with my graduation weekend, so I spent the entirety of Thursday through Sunday celebrating and eating decadently with family and friends. I can't help but fall in love over and over with the changing season  The chill in the air turning the leaves and bringing so much colour to the world is breathtaking. I was hesitant at first to try out the 90s grunge trend, but after I gave in to plaid I couldn't help but try tying it around my waist. I wanted to take my white jeans out for a spin après labour day, and I love how the plaid print takes this outfit from simple to 90s with one item. Are you incorporating plaid into your fall outfits? Wishing you all an amazing Monday! xo

spoiled by kiehl's

As someone who has been on a strict skin regime since elementary school, I have always taken pride in cleansing, toning, and moisturizing my face. In my early years of high school I went through a pore extracting phase (cue Biore nose strips), and also loved to do a weekly exfoliating mask to leave my skin extra shiny. I haven't changed all that much now that I'm in my twenties, and I am always up for trying new products.

Kiehl's completely spoiled me after my visit to their new location at Guildford Town Centre, and I've had great success with so many of their products. My favourites? The Midnight Recovery Concentrate (I wake up with my skin looking completely rejuvenated) and the iconic Creme de Corps whipped body butter (the best smelling lotion I have ever put on my body, period). Huge thank you to Kiehl's for the goodies  I highly recommend!

nutty vegan breakfast quinoa

Quinoa is a staple in my diet, and those who know my eating habits can attest to that! Ever since I started doing the Wild Rose Detox once a year, there have been moments when I've found myself having quinoa for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (no shame). This superfood is high in protein and fibre, it's full of antioxidants, and it's gluten-free!

I love waking up and looking forward to breakfast (with coffee, of course). On days when I have a little extra time in the morning, I whip up my favourite breakfast quinoa. It's so delicious with a sweet nutty flavour, and it's guaranteed to keep you full and energized until lunch. Each ingredient I've used is organic or raw, which I've tried to incorporate more and more into my diet.

1/2 - 1 c. Cooked quinoa
1 tbsp. Organic chia seeds, hemp seeds, and buckwheat
1 tsp. Golden roasted flaxseed
1/2 tsp. Cinnamon
1 tsp. Almond butter
1/2 - 1 c. Unsweetened vanilla almond milk
Optional. Drizzle of agave nectar
On top. Your favourite fruit and a sprinkle of raw nuts

For less fuss, I cooked my quinoa the night before. Mix all ingredients together, then add steamed almond milk and stir. Let sit for a few minutes so the chia, hemp & buckwheat absorb some of the liquid and soften. I always top mine with a handful of berries, slices of banana, and almonds. Enjoy!
