what you make of it

It seems strange to be sitting at my desk again, blogging for the first time in months. You'd think I would have so much to say, but really, it just feels so nice to be writing and documenting my style again. Big changes have happened in my life, some good, some not-so-good, but it's all part of the process - if anything, this is a year of growth. Living in a new city (albeit, just outside of where I lived before, it's still a big transition to live on my own) has given me incredible perspective, and I've been trying to self-reflect as much as I can. It's way too easy to get caught up in the intricacies of friends, family, my job, what to do on the weekend, self-image, etc.

Being faced with a lot of change has forced me to look within, and with new perspective comes new style. I love that fashion can reflect who you are, who you want to be, or just who you feel like that day. I've been experimenting with different trends, and sometimes just throwing together whatever I feel good in. Like this outfit: Creams, destroyed jeans, long layers. And a graffitied wall with a happy cat. How can you go wrong? Happy Friday everyone. It feels good to be back.

clearly contacts giveaway

Bring on the hipster glasses. After moving to Gastown in Vancouver, I am now allowed to rock these daily, guilt-free. Perfect for dressing up or down, the subtle cat-eye on these frames from ClearlyContacts.ca is perfect for us with smaller, rounder faces  and hello tortoise + pink! Lately I've been wearing them while lounging at home in a cozy sweater and the softest b.up pajamas from Pjzzzz

I love fashion with a cause, and I especially love the way ClearlyContacts.ca gives back with their one-for-one business model. For every Evergreen frame sold, a seed is sent to a tree nursery in a developing country where agroforestry workshops provide local farmers with the education they need to cultivate their own land. Designed with a vintage-chic vibe (and how great are the brightly coloured frames?) I love that the Evergreen collection is both fashion-forward and eco-friendly.

I'm so excited that ClearlyContacts.ca is offering one of my readers a free pair of their own frames from the Evergreen line! Enter below for your chance to win. Good luck and happy Monday! xo

blush blouse

During my move to Vancouver this month, I went through my entire closet and purged. It felt really great to only keep what I loved and donate the rest. At the same time, I was also able to 'shop my own closet' and find pieces that I'd completely forgotten about (or thought looked terrible on me, but actually suit my style now). So when I discovered this blouse tucked away from a few years ago, I knew I had to style it again for Spring. This light blush colour is one of my favourites, and I love the simple collar embellishment. So much so, that I opted out of wearing any jewellery at all (a first)! So don't be afraid, take a look at some of your closet items from past seasons and re-style them for Spring. I dare you. Happy Tuesday! xo

new perspectives

I've been living in the heart of Vancouver for a week now, and I've already opened my eyes to the incredible possibilities that the city has to offer. Between simple walks to my favourite coffee shops, having brunch with creative minds, and going through ridiculous antics and long life-conversations with my roommate, I feel as though I have a new perspective on where I'm headed. Things recently have been thrown a little off balance, but I'm seeing it as a way to build strength and determination to get to where I want to be.

Speaking of new perspectives, I recently worked with PRSPECTV by Pierce, an up-and-coming photographer in Vancouver with a seriously cool vibe and amazing talent behind the lens. I put together this outfit to reflect my style recently, pieces that I feel great in and can take me from day-to-night (also recreating this look from Instagram). We went with a balance of hard and soft, shooting in Gastown, and I love how the photos turned out. Check out his work and have an amazing weekend everyone. xo

gluten-free vegan waffles

Today is International Waffle Day and I decided to whip up the easiest, quickest, most delicious vegan gluten-free waffles in the world. Okay, maybe not the world, but at least in Vancouver. Seriously these waffles are amazing. Five ingredients, two minutes. Done and done. Yes, I'm not kidding!

The texture is crisp on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and the oatmeal adds a bit of a crunch. They definitely have a different consistency than a batter that includes eggs, flour, and sugar. But, in all honesty, for a healthy, vegan, flourless waffle around 65 calories each, they are so, so good. Leftovers? Pop them in the toaster and they crisp up perfectly the next day. You're welcome! xo

Ingredients:
1 c. Oatmeal
1 c. Almond milk
1 tbsp. Almond butter
1 Banana
Cinnamon to taste

Throw everything into a bowl, and blend! Pour into your heated waffle iron. Makes about 5 waffles. I served mine with a drizzle of agave nectar topped with sliced bananas and blueberries.

dash of leopard

I thought about it the other day, and I have had this leopard printed blouse for over five years. It's faded a bit, and has a small rip at the seam, but I still have kept it after all this time. It's just a simple H&M top, but it got me thinking about longevity. How many pieces in my closet have I kept for years? I love buying items on trend, but at the same time I've been more conscious about my purchasing habits and gravitating towards neutrals and classic pieces. Something that I'll still love in five years, or be happy to donate instead of just throw away. In the words of Vivienne Westwood, buy less and choose well. Have a lovely Monday everyone. xo

spring transition

After being housebound by a bad cold last week, I am 100% embracing the beauty of Spring right now. Vancouver, you have sure delivered. I love waking up to sunshine and wearing a light jacket during the day instead of my heavy outerwear. Sunnies on, sunroof open, music turned up. There is nothing better! It's also so nice to just layer a sweater (like this style from Lady Dutch) over a blouse for a relaxed-yet-put-together look. Perfect for a day of meetings or lunch with a girlfriend. I threw on my favourite red heels, a swipe of lipstick, and called it a day. Happy Spring everyone! xo

week at a glance

I am sitting here writing this blog post, wondering how in the world it is already Friday! Weeks go by like a blur lately and everything (I mean everything) is happening to me all. At. Once. Which, by all accounts, is completely okay. I feel like life never gives you more than you can handle. So here is my week at a glance (more like the past two weeks-ish, if we're being technical) and looking back at these photos makes me smile. Like visiting Wishlist Boutique and admiring this garland made by Confetti and Co. shown above. Simple moments are taken for granted too often. Have a lovely weekend everyone. xo

Quick lipstick application in the Rosewood Hotel Georgia
Delicious afternoon tea at Truffles Cafe in Van Dusen Gardens
Beautiful red roses from my sweetheart
One of my favourite rooibos tea blends from Davids Tea (and the perfect heart mug)
Surprising life update: I'm moving to Gastown! More on that later. xo

la vie parisienne

Photo of Parisienne French: Chic Phrases, Slang & Style by Rhianna Jones

Oh, how I dream of Paris. With the buzz of Paris Fashion Week and my own adoration for the City of Light, this beautiful city has been on my mind constantly. I visited about 7 years ago, and I have been on a mission to go back someday soon. Paris, in all it's hyped beauty, was exactly what I expected. Cobblestoned streets, drinking espresso in cafes, stopping for crepes after a day of shopping. And I was in awe of the French Woman, effortlessly fashionable and unassuming. She truly had that je ne sais quoi that we always hear about. How do they do it?!

When I go back to Paris again and enter la vie Parisienne, I'll be so happy to have this adorably chic phrase book that also acts as a guide to the stylish vibe of the city. After flipping through Parisienne French: Chic Phases, Slang & Style by the lovely Rhianna Jones, I realized right away I had found a hidden gem. Perfect for those of us who have a basic understanding of the French language but want to sound a little more sophisticated en français. This little book covers everything from how to tell your girlfriend about the most amazing pair of heels you just bought, to expressing your artistic views at the Musée d’Orsay, to chatting up that French hottie at the bar.

C'est parfait, non? Navigate the streets and social scene of Paris with Parisienne French, and even if you can't make it to the City of Light, it's always acceptable to dream.

neutral whites

As a fashion blogger, I suffer from outfit remorse probably more than the usual person. Taking photos of my personal style has made me pickier than I should be. Looking back at these photos, I wish I had gone with a full all-white outfit and thrown on my white blazer (or maybe invested in a winter white wool coat like this one by Theyskens' Theory. Love). Even so, I have all the love in the world for this Banana Republic coat, don't get me wrong. And I have definitely been gravitating towards neutrals lately  black, gray, white, beige. Maybe I'm just being boring? But I love mixing different textures and styles in a monochrome colour to really make something unique. And finally, I've stopped being afraid of wearing white in the colder months. An accomplishment to say the least. It's always kind of thrilling to step outside your comfort zone, right?
